Sagittal Appliance
The sagittal appliance fits in the roof of your mouth. It is made of acrylic and metal. The purpose of the sagittal appliance is to create room in the upper jaw by pushing one or both of your six year molars back and sometimes to increase the width of the upper jaw. This is done by turning the screw(s) that are incorporated into the appliance. You will do this for a period of time directed by the doctor. You will take the sagittal appliance out of your mouth to turn the screw(s). Different designs can be chosen to customize the appliance to each individual.
